Network Operations Analyst

Job Description:

The Network Operations Center (NOC) Analyst is a critical member of the ATLAS Network Operations Center team. The team executes all activities related to the 24/7 operations for our Freedom® network. This position includes periodic assignments as a 24-hour on-call operator responding as needed to resolve network performance issues.

Responsibilities:

Develop, organize, and implement processes and procedures to ensure network performance exceeds internal and customer service level commitments.
Identify, analyze, diagnose, and resolve network operational issues impacting ATLAS service to customer space missions, including network performance troubleshooting (TCP/IP, UDP, routing, etc.).
Serve as the first point of escalation for complex technical issues and coordinate effectively with customers, vendors, and technical teams across remote locations.
Oversee daily network operational tasks, including managing downtime, maintenance windows, software upgrades, and customer communications.
Create and maintain custom service checks, monitoring configurations, and automation event handlers for the ATLAS network monitoring system (NMS).
Perform in-depth network performance analysis and work directly with Internet Service Providers (ISP) to ensure connectivity and throughput stability.
Monitor and manage providers of power and internet service to ATLAS ground stations.
Act as a primary liaison between Operations and the Software and Network teams, developing tools and solutions to enhance workflow and problem resolution.
Maintain the various tools used by Operations and ensure they are functional, relevant, and optimized for current workflows.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or 3 years work experience in IT, network operations, communications or similar.
Experience managing incidents from detection through root cause analysis.
Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Experience with IP networking (TCP, UDP, routing) and network performance analysis tools.
Ability to quickly master advanced workflow tools and analytical software.
Willing to work nights and weekends for on-call roughly every other month and satellite launch and early orbit (LEOP) events 4-6 times per year.

Preferred Qualifications:

Proven experience with ticketing systems and workflow management.
Experience with satcom, RF systems (antennas, modems, baseband), or digital signal processing.
Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing, and the ability to perform detailed network diagnostics using tools like wireshark, iperf, traceroute.
Strong scripting skills, especially in Python and BASH, to support NMS service checks and automation.
Hands-on experience creating and maintaining network monitoring systems and automating network event responses.
Experience in one or more coding languages such as Python, Java, or Rust (considered a major differentiator)

Location:

ATLAS HQ in Traverse City, MI – In office with some hybrid work available
Travel is not anticipated, but may be required on rare occasions
