ATLAS Space Operations Adds Three New Engineers

ATLAS Space Operations is pleased to announce today that it has appointed three additional members to its engineering team. The new engineers are:

Steve Gerstein
Director of Software Engineering
Sam Lewis
Senior Software Engineer
Brendan Lennon

Gerstein and Lewis join ATLAS Space Operations from OneWeb, a satellite constellation operator that recently filed for bankruptcy. Lennon joins ATLAS directly from the United States Air Force. ATLAS is delighted to onboard these highly talented individuals in an amicable opportunity for all parties involved.

“2020 is a momentum year for ATLAS Space Operations,” said CEO Sean McDaniel. “As we are rapidly expanding our global ground network, our FREEDOM™ software services, as well as increasing our customer base, the arrival of these new engineers is right on time for us.”

Steve Gerstein was formerly an operations development manager responsible for launching and operating hundreds of low earth orbit satellites for OneWeb and Iridium. At ATLAS, he will be responsible for ensuring the reliability of ATLAS’s cloud-hosted network and implementing complex ground systems to automate command and control of multiple satellite constellations. He holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland and a MS in Systems Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Sam Lewis’s most recent position as a fleet operations development engineer at OneWeb developing automation software to manage its large fleet of satellites. Sam also brings experience from NASA Goddard where he operated earth observation satellites. Sam holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Maryland.

Brendan Lennon served eight years in the United States Air Force as a Radio Frequency Transmissions Systems Technician, maintaining a variety of operational and tactical communications systems. As a SATCOM Systems Field Technician, his responsibilities will include providing on-site support at ATLAS’s ground sites around the world. Brendan has a BS in Business from Ferris State University, and is progressing towards a Master’s degree in Information Technology Management.

“The opportunity to acquire these new engineers was quite a windfall,” said Steve Gaines, Chief Engineer at ATLAS Space Operations. “It’s not every day that we come across so many individuals whose skillset and passion for space communications is such a perfect match for our organization. I’m grateful we were able to bring them onto the team. ATLAS has a bright future ahead of us.”
